RE: about electronic motor control

Unless you consider vairable frequecny drives and solid state starters as non-electronic, they are very much prevailant.

VFD are almost a standard (at least in the USA) where speed control of a squirrel cage motor is required.

The costs have come down greatly, and in most cases it is not even a factor.  They are very comparable to say a star-delta starter of a similar rating.

Solid state reduced voltage starter also comparable (10 to 15% more) than a standard starter.

All of these are easy to find and carried by all leading electrical equipment manufacturers.

RE: about electronic motor control

Suggestion: There are various resources available that might be used for enhancing backgroud in electronics aligned with squirrel-cage induction motors, e.g.
http://www.amazon.com
and under books, type Induction Motors that will return 48 books
http://www.geindustrial.com/cwc/products...
for typical industry motor drive products with applications
or just surf web for more info (sometimes very attractive in colors, animations, academic level, etc.)
