Does anyone know how to get acad 2002 or 2004 to default to the same directory you're currently working in when you go to open another drawing?

Acad always wants to default to the last directory you opened a drawing in. It's really anoying when you're working on a job and you open some other job's drawing just to check it out or steal from it (in the middle of working on YOUR project)... then you close that reference drawing and acad drops you back into the first job and you work on that for a while and go to open another drawing and it defaults to the "reference" directory instead of the directory you are really working in.

RE: Default open

Hi,

I have never tried this but it sounds like what you are looking for:

Change the Default Drawing Folder
Each time you start AutoCAD, the last used paths in each particular standard file selection dialog box are remembered across AutoCAD sessions. Alternatively, you can configure AutoCAD to always default to a particular path by changing the default drawing folder.

To change the default drawing folder

Set the REMEMBERFOLDERS system variable to 0.
On the Windows desktop, right-click the AutoCAD icon. Then choose Properties.
Choose the Shortcut tab.
In the Start In box, enter the path of the folder that should be the default when you open or save drawing files.
Choose OK.

REMEMBERFOLDERS Controls the default path for the Look In or Save In option in standard file selection dialog boxes

I hope this does the trick for you so I didn't waste your time.

Regards,

Tom
