Modeling a curved compression spring

(OP)
I need to model a helical compression spring that is going around a curve.  As of now, I have modeled the spring as a tube, one sweep feature.  Is there a way to do this?  I was thinking of using 3D points, and then sweeping the points.  I do not know how to generate the 3D points though.  Also, I would like to be able to show the part in the different working lengths, and straight too in the same configuration.

Thanks.

Mike Wilson has a great site about pushing the abilities of SW.

Page 5 has an Adjustable Curved Helix that I think is right up your alley.
