Does anyone know a way to produce Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files from SolidWorks drawings?

RE: EPS file from SW Drawing

Do a Google search for some shareware named "GhostScript".

Other options:

In the past, I have PS-based hijacked printer drivers to produce PS and EPS.  Basically, install the printer driver so that it defaults to print to a file.

PDF is PS based.  Save or print to a PDF and open in Adobe Illustrator or Corel.

Hijaak Pro is an amazing reading and concersion tool.  Usually available for less than US$200.

SWVB101,

You need to set up a PostScript printer somehow.  This may be difficult if you do not actually have a PostScript printer.

Once you have a PostScript printer, you print to file.

GhostScript is a PostScript interpreter.  It is very helpful once you have a PostScript file to play with.  It will convert PostScript into whatever it is your printer understands, even if you have a nine pin dot matrix!

GhostSctript also creates TIFF, JPEG and PDF files from the PostScript.

GhostScript converts FROM PostScript, not TO PostScript, so it will not help you with SolidWorks.

RE: EPS file from SW Drawing

Oh, yeah.  It's been so long that I forgot the intermediary step of creating the postscript file.  I used to do that with a print driver.

I used to find print drivers available at printer manufacturer websites ready for download.  Also, your Windows OS may have some default drivers handy.  Once you have a driver, just go through the Windows routine to install a new printer, and direct that printer to print to a file instead of a port.

Why do you need an EPS?  Maybe there's a better way.

Bingo Tick!

What are you ultimately trying to achieve?

RE: EPS file from SW Drawing

Our marketing/graphics person is the only one in the company using a Mac. She always wants .eps of the dwgs for her layouts. I always give her a .jpg or .tif and it always works. I see no use for .eps.

RE: EPS file from SW Drawing

If she's using Adobe Illustrator, try giving her a PDF.  PDF can be brought right into Illustrator and manipulated like a regular *.ai  file.  I believe the same is true for Corel.  SW2004 has PDF export function.  Otherwise, PDF995 works great.  See www.pdf995.com

DXF can be brought into Illustrator, as well, but there can be some difficulty.

Again, having a seat of Hijaak around can do wonders for your interoperability scenario.

Thanks everyone, I figured it out shortly after I posted this question...

I did several google searches and found this web page that had step by step instructions and a link to the adobe PS printerdriver...

Here is a Site… ( http://www.synergy.com/exporteps.htm )

--------------

Windows instructions:
These steps are for Windows 95 and 98. Under Windows NT and 2000, an Adobe PostScript printer driver must be selected in the Print dialog. Other drivers may not allow you to select EPS for the Output Format. To download a driver go to: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/p...
1. Choose File > Print (Print Graphics in KaleidaGraph).
2. Select the Print to File check box.
3. Choose a PostScript driver and click Properties.
4. Click the PostScript tab and choose EPS for the Output Format.
5. Change the file extension to .EPS (often defaults to .PRN).
6. Click OK until the Save dialog is displayed. Once you enter a file name, an EPS file is created on your hard disk that can be imported into another program. You cannot preview the image in the destination program, but it will print correctly.
