Viewports always ZOOM EXTENTS

I am using Land Desktop 3 and trying to use layouts to set up multiple views of my model space plan.  When in a Layout view I type MSPACE and click in a viewport that viewport does an automatic ZOOM EXTENTS.  When I try to restore a named view in a viewport it also does a ZOOM EXTENTS.
I know there must be some setting that controls this but I have not been able to find it in the help system. REGENAUTO on or off ha no effect.

RE: Viewports always ZOOM EXTENTS

Have you tried the AutoCAD variable 'ucsfollow'?  If it is set to 0 you should not have a problem, but if it is set to 1, the view will automatically change to a plan view in the current UCS.  Also a little trick, if you have AutoCAD 2000 or later, you should be able to double click inside the desired viewport to work with your model space instead of typing mspace.
