!!!Tough Application!!!

!!!Tough Application!!!

!!!Tough Application!!!

(OP)
Hi,
Can anyone help me with a tough application?

I have designed a shear testing jig which is basically 2 plates being pulled in oposing directions.
The test piece is bonded between the plates.
I need to select an adhesive which will allow me to run shear tests on various materials and obviously i want the bond to hold during the test.

Any ideas on what to use or where to look.

Thanks,
Mark20

RE: !!!Tough Application!!!

The type of adhesive to use will depend on the substrates materials (the plates material and the testing material), so you need first to define the type of material that you want to test, and select and adhesive with a shear strength higher than the expected from testing material.

RE: !!!Tough Application!!!

Several materials will work depending on stress.  I would suggest methacrylate, Rubber-toughened cyanoacrylate, and ask that you avoid silicone or urethane based materials (their flexibility/elasticity will throw off your test).  The reason for rubber toughened CA instead of normal ethyl/methyl blends is to compensate for peel.  Most CA's are highly susceptible to peel.
