Dear all,
I would like to know, when to use expansion loop for chilled water pipework??

thank you very much

RE: chilled water pipework expansion loop

There are three factors you need to consider.

1.  What material is the pipe constructed from.

2.  What is the operating temperature difference.

3.  What is the length of the pipe.

For example, a mild steel pipe containing chilled water with an operating teperature difference of 25 K and a pipe length of 75 m gives,

coeff. of expansion of mild steel @ 25 K delta T = 0.284 mm/m

expansion of pipe is (0.284 x 75) = 21.3 mm

I hope this helps.
