Has anyone used Copper Casting Alloy for X-Ray Shielding?

Has anyone used Copper Casting Alloy for X-Ray Shielding?

Has anyone used Copper Casting Alloy for X-Ray Shielding?

(OP)
In researching a replacement for lead used as an x-ray shield for a CT collimator, I came across a copper-casting alloy. I'd like to use UNC C87600 to replace the aluminum casting and lead liner currently used. The C87600 has a slightly higher ultimate tensile strength than the aluminum and if cast using the same thickness as the current lead/aluminum design I can achieve the same density per unit area as the lead sheeting.

Our intention is to test C87600 to see if it will pass x-ray attenuation tests before putting it into production.

I was wondering if anyone else had tried this or a similar material for this application.

RE: Has anyone used Copper Casting Alloy for X-Ray Shielding?

Although this topic is several months old, I could probably test it for attenuation at the labs in my grad school office. Let me know.

I at this moment am not familiar with the use of this alloy for that application.

Thank you for your offer. My customer has tested this material and found that it did not meet their requirements.

OK. Well let me know if  you need to do this some time in the future. I can do it in grad school basically for free!
