application involves making a 50 deg move in under 20 ms including settling time.
load on motor shaft is minimal ( under 1 oz)
it has to be a servo
please help in finding a suitable motor/drive

The DC motor will have faster start than AC since the AC motor losses some time due to sinusoid rise. The 20 ms is slightly more than 1 period of 60Hz power supply, 1/60=0.0166 seconds. Also, the angle of rotation 50 deg will take some time to implement.

They make servo motors with ironless rotor specially
for high acceleration. I have seen a 3 inch dia. capstan
on a tape drive which was wrapt into a blob due to the high
acceleration -- the motor was undamaged.
