EDM to repair NDT indications

EDM to repair NDT indications

EDM to repair NDT indications

(OP)

I have an expensive, complex machined part with a few minor indications discovered during surface inspection.  It has been recommended that these indications can be repaired by EDM.  My knowledge of EDM is very limited, and I was curious if this is a fairly common application of EDM.

Hello Icepak

I work for a company in Illionis that builds and runs EDM's. Our web site is hausermann.net.

RE: EDM to repair NDT indications

I am interested in the replys to this question. This is not a common repair procedure in aerospace applications. In fact in 30 years of engineering I have never heard of anyone doing this. The only repair I have used is removing material to a depth necesary by mechanical means(grinding). EDM of material can replace one type of surface indication with another type. The indications left by EDM are almost never allowed in aerospace applications.
