Timber Truss Minimum Bearing

Timber Truss Minimum Bearing

Timber Truss Minimum Bearing

(OP)
I am trying to determine if there is a minimum bearing requirement for a parallel chord timber truss.  I have found minimum bearings for joists and rafters, and was wondering if this requirement applies to trusses as well.

RE: Timber Truss Minimum Bearing

Go to:

www.archoneng.com

The have an inexpensive, about $40, program that will tell you all you need to know about wood trusses.

Also if your are into wood construction go to:

www.abebooks.com and search the title "Building Construction Illustrated" by Ching. This book a little dated but it's an excellant source of details. Very good illustrations.

RE: Timber Truss Minimum Bearing

The NDS (National Design Specification for wood construction) 2001 Ed.

Article 3.10 discusses "Design for Bearing" and makes no distinction between joists, rafters, trusses, or other specific type of structural member.

good luck
