Inspecting rubber products
Inspecting rubber products
(OP)
When inspecting rubber components, what is the best method? Normal calipers or other direct methods can compress the surface and provide false results. Typical durometer is 50, typical tolerance is either +/- .031" or +/- .062". Would a comparitor be the best choice? Maybe a CMM? Are there 'affordable' lasers measuring devices used in industry? These products are normally measured in the unrestrained condition. The products are round, usually 3" to 14" diameter.
Thanks.
Thanks.

These insturments are fairly expensive. They are a lot of them on the secondary market that might do the job.

Try some air gaging.
An optical comparator may also be a good solution.
