Certification For Technicians

(OP)
My organization is looking into third party certification for our Electric Power Generation Technicians and Substation Maintenance Technicians. Is anyone aware of any? What is your opinion of their people and their certification programs?

RE: Certification For Technicians

Suggestion: A technician is supposed to be somewhere between a tradesman and a bachelor. It is a very fine refinement of someone's skill. Nowadays tradesmen are much more educated and skilled than they used to be in the past. Therefore, if the expected technician duty is not requiring the university education, the tradesman; especially with high school, will be quite capable of performing technician's work. Also, some bachelors are working in technician's positions because of their choice to do such work.
The Technical Institutes are often preparing technicians for highly specialized and well paid positions. One may earn diploma in about two years.
The certificate/diploma from a Technical Institute would probably be a type of certification that is sought with the above other two categories left as options.
