part numbering system

(OP)
Hi everyone. We are an OEM plant. We have a fabrication and welding departments. We would like to use a part numbering system that automatically stamps part numbers on parts for easy identification. We use plasma, stamping presses, and iron workers machines in our fab deprt. Is there a system outhere that will allow us to do this automatically?
We also make sub assemblies and sfinal assemblies (welded). We are looking for help on how to number these parts (sub assembly and assembly)without any confusion with the parts coming from the fab dept.
Please feel free to make any suggestion.
Thank you
