concrete barge design - need tips and background on this

(OP)
I am part of the R&D team in our company. we deal basically on vertical structures. Currently we are looking into designing a concrete barge for shipping aggregates for our sister company.

1.) Can anybody lead me to a literature or website to get some ideas on this item?

2.) Does anyone have tips on doing this?

Surf the Internet and see if you can get a website for the U.S. Navy Suprvisor of Shipbuilding.  They had concrete ships during WW2.

The most famous concrete "barges" in WWII were the mulberry floating docks used in the D-Day invasion.  They were concrete barges built in London and towed to Normandy were they were sunk to create harbors.
Some of them ( or parts of ) are still there.

a) Get a hold of American Bureau Of Shipping (ABS). They have some old design info on concrete vessels.

b) Concrete vessels are currently designed by Berger-Abam Engineers.

c) Concrete Technology Corp. in Washington State builds concrete vessels.

d) For some additional info, go to www.concreteships.org
