Axisymetric Finite Deflection of Circular Plates
Axisymetric Finite Deflection of Circular Plates
(OP)
I have a solution for this problem in Chapter 10.11 of Roark, but the load case refers to constant pressure over all surface. Does anyone has a paper of Mr. Mah, G.B.J. (a proceeding of American Society of Civil Engineers - Mech. Eng. Div., vol 95, no. 5, October 1969)? According to Mr. Roark this paper describes several loadings and edge conditions.
My specific case is an atmospheric horizontal flat heat tank and I have to determine the stresses in the heads.
Thanks in advance.

Size and pressure would also help get you pointed in the right direction.

The reason I mentioned API and ASME codes is that a lot of programs don't take into consideration is how the plate is attached to the shell. It is this connection that causes the problem. One thing to remember if you are designing to a code the head plates become very thick very fast with pressure. I've been involved in some very hairy situations involving flat plates.

you are quite right.
The stresses I have to determine are due to static head of fluid contained inside the horizontal tank.
I did not find a load case for such situation.
