(OP)
I am looking for a good FE package for modelling underwater magnetic signatures, OPERA-3D by vector fields has been suggested, does anyone have any first hand experience of this or can they recommend any other package? Are there any limitations/advantages to using OPERA-3d above anything else?
Thanks

RE: FEM software

I use the VF software, and have been pleased with the results.  At the last NA VF user's group meeting, there were some folks who use the VF software for surface ship mag. field modeling.

BUT, be ready for a considerable learning curve (more so for 3D).  This software is powerful, but (for me) not quick to learn.  Going to the VF training classes should help.  Then I'd plan on several additional man-weeks of effort to develop some proficiency.

However, the results I get (using VF) are better than any other FEA software I've tried, so it's worth it to me.
