LP Tanks - NFPA 58

LP Tanks - NFPA 58

LP Tanks - NFPA 58

(OP)
Background:
I have an aboveground multi-container LP installation with one group of three tanks and one group of six tanks.  Each ASME tank is approximately 30,000 gallons in capacity and equipped with redundant fail-safe control measures (as defined by section 3.11).  The groups are separated by 35 feet.

Question:
Section 3.2.2.4 and the associated table 3.2.2.4 state the minimum level of fire protection required based on the number of tanks and separation distances.  The exception to this section allows the separation distances for hose streams to be cut in half if the requirements of sections 3.11.3 and 3.11.4 are provided.  Assuming that the above referenced installation meets the requirements of sections 3.11.3 and 3.11.4, do hose steams only meet the requirements of table 3.2.2.4?

While it seems fairly clear to me this is acceptable, I became confused in reviewing the LP-Gas Code Handbook.  Page 152 of the handbook indicates that section 3.11 is for UNDERGROUND and MOUNDED containers only.  However, the words “underground” or “mounded” do not appear anywhere in section 3.11.  Thank you in advance for any guidance you can give me on the intent of this section.
