elastomer diaphragms

elastomer diaphragms

(OP)
Hello,

I am designing a piston cylinder with a moblie elastomer (nylon with neoprene coating) diaphragm seal that moves with the piston.

How do I go about determining the travel of the diaphragm before failure of the elastomer?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: elastomer diaphragms

Make the diaphram into a ROLLING diaphram. Essentially stress free.

I understand that there are rolling diaphragms which are essentially stress free.  However I would like to know if I could get away without using one.  Essentially, I am asking about how to determine the flexural strength of an elastomer. Thank you for your reply.
