Can anyone tell me why I get the "Fatal error"

Can anyone tell me why I get the "Fatal error"

Can anyone tell me why I get the "Fatal error"

(OP)
When i open a autocad drawing in 2002 i get the "fatal error unhandled access violation reading 0x0000 exception
at 300381d6h.   I think it has someting to possibly do with a bad ram card, so the program just aborts?

Any comments would be benificial,

Thanks

RE: Can anyone tell me why I get the "Fatal error"

It's not the ram card. Autocad is notorious for doing this.
Your best bet is to rename the .bak file to your existing .dwg and open it up again. When you do get it open, it's a good idea to purge the dwg every so often.

RE: Can anyone tell me why I get the "Fatal error"

Hi,
do You have this Problem in one *.dwg, or in every drawings?
I think You got a *.dwg from another draftsmen, with an application?

Proxy objects in drawings :
The following Autodesk applications create proxy objects:
·    Mechanical Desktop
·    AutoCAD Mechanical
·    Autodesk® Architectural Desktop

Give more informations
Regards Lothar

RE: Can anyone tell me why I get the "Fatal error"

you say "it gives mr some proxies dialog box when i open it in R14?"

and you don't get that, or a fatal error in Acad 14?

in Acad 2002
tools -> options
"open and save" tab
under "ObjectARX Applications"
select the following:
"object detect and command invoke"
"show proxy graphics"

then uncheck "show proxy infomation dialog box"

hope this helps

The problem occurs when i open a R14 version dwg file
but not always?  i have search & searched for this problem but still cannot figure out why?   I have turned off "show proxy infomation dialog box"  but it still does'nt fix the problem? i have purged in R14 & audited....but when i open in dwg in autocad 2002 it still gives me this error?

I think i may need to install the service pack from autodesk?

I think there are issues with other applications in the drawing file?  (blocks from other vendors)
