Effect of case hardening on surface roughness

Effect of case hardening on surface roughness

(OP)
I have part which I turn and burnish to Ra 0.8max. Susequently, the part is carburised and hardened in Sealed Quench Furnace.
On a 27 pc study at 9points of furnace, I could see a increase of 0.3 Ra between before HT and after HT values.

What is a lot to lot variation i.e.maximum increase of Ra, I can expect?

What are the factors which contribute to this? and How to control them.

I am also trying to hold post heat treat dimensions to +/-02 without any susequent machining like grinding/honing etc.,? Any help in this also would be appreciated.

Thanks.
