9/11 and engineering evolution

9/11 and engineering evolution

9/11 and engineering evolution

(OP)
Well, it's been 2 years now, and to remember this I wished to start a new topic in which we would speak about which effects all incidents that happened since 9/11 did have an impact on the evolution of our professions.

It is known as a fact that aeronautics suffer alot from all thos events, just need to read some press articles to be aware of this. But what about all others engineerings professions? Do you think the falling number of jobs can be related to 9/11 and Gulf War II? In which extend? Will engineering be able to take off again, as we hope aeronautics will?

All thoughts welcome in this debate

And of course, all my prayers for victims and their families. Shall we always remember.

RE: 9/11 and engineering evolution

Indirectly, I'd say that some of the outcome of 9/11 has affected other engineering positions -- however, I think that the picture is a little bigger and was ready for a fall:  the stock market was already overvalued, many companies were being run by those whose interests were only in fattening their own pockets, accounting had compromised it's principals, business schools had focused on the wrong issues for a decade, companies forgot who their real employees were, and the public accepted this because they were "invested" -- it was a stack of cards ready to fold -- 9/11 was there with the first punch, if it hadn't been that, it would have been something else that would have upset the apple cart... unfortunateluy, we don't seemed to have learned much from it...
