Adding hole to side of cylinder? Hole placement?
Adding hole to side of cylinder? Hole placement?
(OP)
I am trying to add a threaded hole to the side of a cylinder and the program doesn't seem to let me do that. I am also adding threaded holes to a surface but don't see how to place it in a specific spot, only where the mouse clicks.
Any info?

RE: Adding hole to side of cylinder? Hole placement?
Not possible on a round cylindrical model. Because the edge is not round, it is seen as and ellipse. You could try adding a Cosmetic thread from the drawing but I think you will get the same result.
True Helixed thread?
You only need to learn how to do cut-sweeps using a helix. It's the same as a boss-sweep. See example at www.scottjbaugh.com

To put a threaded hole in a specific location, you have to either add relations or dimensions as you would with any other feature.

The thread does not look complete in the model but looks fine in a drawing.
BlindChickenRacing:
Do some experimenting with the hole wizard. Hole poitions are constrained after they are placed. Constrain the points in their sketch just like any other sketch geometry, with constraints and dimensions.
Also, try plaing the holes on a datum plane tangent to the cylinder instead of directly on the cylinder face. Have the plane selected before activating the hole wizard. That way your position point sketch is a 2D sketch on the plane, which should give you better functionality for this operation.
