moving old configuration to new install
moving old configuration to new install
(OP)
SW2003 sp3.1
I hade a complete HD failure yesterday and had to re-install everything.
Luckily my company has a backup utility.
Is there or are there configuration files that I should recover to put into the SW directories to get back my configuration they way I had it.
If so, can someone please provide the names of the files.
I would appreciate it.
I had just finally gotten everything the way I liked it and then this happened?
Woe is me.

RE: moving old configuration to new install
On the upside, you will be able to copy options from someone else's station.
RE: moving old configuration to new install
But a couple of these may help....
1) The 'username'.cus file ("hardrive/programs/solidworks/user/username.cus") will have your customized keyboard shortcuts.
2) If you had the macro toolbar active, the macros folder in SW will be there.
3) Dimensional favorites will have a .sldfvt stored at the point of your choosing.
4) Any self created palette features, parts, and form tools will be there as well as downloded skins.
Remember...

your going to have to use your feet."

I tried using the copy options wizard but the existing users list box is empty and there are no names listed.
Any idea what I can change so that I do appear in this box??
Thanks,
DG

Are you using the stand alone Copy wizard program (SW2003 I assume, thats what i'm using anyway) or can you do it from within SW itself?
I have two radio choices.
From user
or
A previously created registry file.
I tried choosing the second one and location my reg file in c:\program files\SolidWorks2003\lang\userpref.reg but it said my reg file I selected wasn't the appropriate format??
Can I physically move these *.reg files? It doesn't seem like that would work. As the reg files wouldn't actually be registered just by copying them.
Thanks,
DG
RE: moving old configuration to new install
One catch is that it seems that you need to have SW running when you run the wizard.
RE: moving old configuration to new install
This is an old macro for early versions of SW but it will work for the majority of actual properties.

Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree. I just wanted a few things copied. One big one is my toolbar settings.
Does the options wizard save toolbar seetings?
Thanks,
DG
RE: moving old configuration to new install
That's how it should work. If not, there are bigger problems that I can't fix.

RE: moving old configuration to new install
Your tool bar settings are saved in a file that is named:
"username".cus. This is located in a folder named user.
If you copy that file from another machine you will have that users tool bar settings. You will also need to rename the file to your user name. As for getting your old setting back there is not much you can do about that.
