heat sink mounting methods

heat sink mounting methods

(OP)
In their discussion of heat sink mounting methods for power devices, several app notes (like Motorola AN-1040, and Caddock AEN-0101)mention the use of compression washers to maintain the required mounting pressure over a range of washer deflection. Has there been any data published to support the effectiveness of this method over common lockwashers? What are good sources of compression washers of the proper height to thickness ratio refered to by these app notes?

RE: heat sink mounting methods

assuming that these washers are only for fastening and not for your heat path, "compression washers" are preferred for soft metals. lock washers are fine with steel and hardened components. even flat washers work if you are careful about tightening. If you are worried about loosing, then your thread sealant.

look under fasteners or electronic component suppliers.
