Small Cutouts Analysis

Small Cutouts Analysis

Small Cutouts Analysis

(OP)
Hi,

I'd like to get some good references for small cutouts analysis both "Intermediate Diagonal Tension" and "Shear Resistant Webs".

I've read NIU and BRUHN but high differences appear when comparing results.

Thanks

RE: Small Cutouts Analysis

Try looking up KUHN on the NACA Technical report server.  He pioneered the analysis of diagonal tension webs.

RE: Small Cutouts Analysis

One of the basic references for the subject matter is:

Rings used for shear web hole reinforcement by K. M. KING (King's paper called very often). AERO DIGEST -  August 1955 - page 24 through 29. This paper was used as basis by Niu and US aircraft companies.

Another ref. is Stress Analysis manual by G.E. MADDUX (Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory) TR AFFDL-TR-69-42 page 1-44 through 1-46.

Furthermore a very mathematical paper is:
An Analysis of the Stress in a Flat Plate with a Reinforced Circular Hole under Edge Forces by C.Gurney (Aeronautical Research Committee Reports and memmoranda R&M No. 1834 (3422) - A.R.C. technical report, 1938

Some test data can be found in the report by SAAB - SAAB TN 29

Furthermore you will need the information about stress concentration by R.E. Peterson
" Stress Concentration Design Factors" Fig. 84 in the study of the problem.

Have not found a simple straight forward method applicable to the problem.

Gunther
