friends,
       We have a problem of heavy vibration and hammering in our produced water line from the slug catcher.The slug catcher pressure is 50 bar and the produced water degasser is at 1.5 bar.The line has a on off valve followed by a long piping with a control valve.
       We have been suggested to install a restriction orifice downstream of the shut down valve, so that the low pressure piping is pressurised slowly at an reasonable rate.Our conceern is,how much of flow would get reduced through it, what would be the pressure drop.The importance of flow reduction stems from the fact that during pigging we get lot of produced water, so if installation of orifice gives a higher pressure drop, and lower flows, it will not evacuate the slug catcher fast enough. How to cross check whether this orifice will work without affecting the flow rates? what equations to use? Is it an acceptable practice?
