BS3603 - 410 and BS1501 - 430??
(OP)
Hello,
Can somebody please tell me the equivalent or the chemical composition of the following materials.
BS 3603 - 410
BS 1501 - 430
Are these equivalent to AISI 410 and 430 or something different.
Thanks in advance.

the materials are essentially the same or equivalent.

RE: BS3603 - 410 and BS1501 - 430??
HFS 410LT50
CFS 410LT50
ERW 410LT50
CEW 410LT50
Have no similarity with what we normally call 410 in the US,
the compositions are all
C 0.20 max
Si 0.35 max
Mn 0.30 - 0.80
My even older copy of 1501 (1969) does not show anything listed as grade 430.
I would investigate this further MadDog88 before you make any decisions.
The 410 seems to refer to the minimum tensile strength in N/mm2
RE: BS3603 - 410 and BS1501 - 430??
my first answer above is wrong, I am sorry.
The numbers apposed to the British Specifications
indicate the minimum strength in MPa.
BS 3603
SPECIFICATION FOR CARBON AND ALLOY STEEL PIPES AND TUBES WITH SPECIFIED LOW TEMPERATURE PROPERTIES FOR PRESSURE PURPOSES
On a comparison table this Spec is given as equivalent to ASTM A 333 Grade 6
Composition %:
C 0.20 max
Si 0.35 max
Mn 0.6 - 1.2
P & S 0.045 max
Al 0.015 min.
Strength range: 410 - 530 MPa (or N/sqmm)
BS 1501 P2
Revision: 88 Chg: A3 Date: 02/15/93
STEELS FOR PRESSURE PURPOSES: PLATES - PART 2: SPECIFICATION FOR ALLOY STEELS * SEE ALSO EN 10028-1, -2 & -3 *
On this steel you can find information on a brochure from a commercial firm:
