window sizes is too big

window sizes is too big

window sizes is too big

(OP)
My co-worker is annoyed by the size of the window that his part/drawing/assemblies open up in.  Can this be set? We are now using SW2003 sp4.0.  Thanks all.

Additional background info.  We each have a 21" monitor.  SolidWorks is not maximized, so that we get to short cuts and other programs quickly.  It seems that the window size is "x" Percentage of the screen size. Adjusting this default size would make him much happier.  I am fine with it.

RE: window sizes is too big

I believe there is a "Maximize Document on open" or somethink of the like in SWX options.

This will maximize the document window within the SWX window.

Yeah we checked that.  That is not it.

RE: window sizes is too big

I assume you are talking about a window size of SW, not the document windows.

1. Check a property of the shortcut icon of SW by right clicking and selecting "Properties". Click "Shortcut" tab and check "Run:" to make sure it is "Normal window"
2. Double click SW icon and adjust the windows size and close.
3. Next time, the windows should come up at same location and size as when you close.

This is a default reaction of any application, but if this does not happen, you may not have enough privilege to customize. Consult with IT.

Sorry, but the problem is inside SolidWorks.

Try this...  open a new part file.... I notice that fills my screen all but 3/16" on the right side and 3/8" from the bottom. The top left is in the top left corner.

Then pull the border (any edge) of the solidworks window into cover the new part window just a bit.  Now please open another new part window..  I notice that it is the same distance from the edges as before.  This holds true for opening current part also. They each open to 95% of the available area.

To me this if the new window always 95% of available area, I believe that are ought be a way to change(reduce) that default size. The hassle is in the needed to drastically re-size your windows all the time. (I think he would prefer 70% like in SW2001)

Is my co-work just too picky, Or what?  Thanks again.

RE: window sizes is too big

I think what you need to do is set Tools> Options> System Options and check-on "Maximize Document on open".  This will make all parts, assys and drawings open to the full W&H of the SW program window.

Then you will want to minimize SW program window to show some of your Desktop, and adjust the H&W of this window to whatever makes it possible for you to view your shortcuts and other stuff.

After this, things should stay put.  When you open SW in the future, the SW program window should revert to the size you manually dragged it to.  When you open files within SW, they should maximize accordingly.

This should work.

RE: window sizes is too big

I think I'm getting the same end-result that your co-worker wants by using the WINDOWS TASKBAR for the majority of my applications.
And I put shortcuts in my START MENU for 90% of the network folders I need to get to.
I'm no windows guru, but I'll be happy to walk you thru it if you need.
