Jobs

Space, the final frontier

Space, the final frontier

Space, the final frontier

(OP)
Abaqus provides estimates the scratch space needed in the dat file but makes no estimate of the total space needed on the disc to run a job. With a problem of a million variables, how much disc space would be needed to run the job, including scratch space? At present the job fails with an error in the msg file indicating that it is unable to write the fct file (in the scratch area).

RE: Space, the final frontier

i ran jobs with over 1 mio DOFs and with 10GB free disk space i was fine.I think the fct file reached about 8GB. i also had problems when i started with the problem. the abaqus.env file had the split_fct parameter set to a low value which resulted in over 30 "sub"-fct files (see 3.5.1 standard manual). apparently abaqus couldnt handle more than a specific number of fct-splits.
