Hi,
I have a two part sanyo air conditioning unit for a room which has no windows which has a burnt out compressor. I have a new compressor made by samsung which is slighty smaller but has the same design and could be swapped in quite easily. Both are rated at 208,230V and use R22 however the larger old one has a 54lra rating while the smaller new one is 36lra. The existing one has design specs of 150 psi on the low side and 300psi on the high side while the new one is rated in MPa with 7TP 1.4AP on the low side and 14TP 2.8AP on the high side. Are these absolute and gauge pressures or what? What numbers should I use to compare with the psi ratings on the old one? Are there any other specs I need to compare? Is it even remotely possible to retrofit this one by changing a fuse and/or other componenets in the circuit? Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Maybe the old is a reciprocating compresor and the new is a rotaive or scroll commpresor .
Would you send me the part and serial number of each one.?
about the pressures it are the testing presures , not the runing pressures.
If both are reciprocating the old one could be 54/36 times the new one.
To change a commpressor it is not a difucult task , for me , since I had be doing it from 1973 , but you will need a lot of tool hard to find on a home shop.
Vaccuum pump,pressures gauges, nitrogen cilynder, oxi-gas torch , etc.

The differences in LRA vs. capacity with the same voltage and refrgerant will be proportional, but not exact.
If you just want to mickey mouse, you probably will be close. If you want it to be right, call a rep, distributor or Sanyo.

I'm glad to know that it would be possible to do; I felt like it most likely would but wanted to be sure. I figure I will call a repairman to braze it in.

To change a compressor need alot more.

What is the compressor capacity ? kcal/hr, btu/hr between new and old one.The best, you should source or ask from your supplier or manufactuter.Capacity is more important than pressure, if capacity is the same you not necessary to look into pressure.

the pressure stated on a compressor is related to the max allowable test pressure.
It does not have any thing to do with capacity
Both a 1/10 hp hotelroom refrigerator and a 15 hp hermetic compressor for a central roof top air conditioner will have the same max allowable test pressure.
It have to do with the compressor shell or vessel .
