slab foundation slippage

slab foundation slippage

slab foundation slippage

(OP)
I have a two story home that seems to be slipping off of it's slab foundation. Live on a hill, track home with no sheer walls. Just stucco on wood. Lots of interior cracks. Has anyone heard of caulk bumping the slab foundation? What are the risks/benefits/costs? Can any construction/building contractor do this? Or is this such a specialized field that I need to hire geotech?

Thanks!

RE: slab foundation slippage

How old is the home?

RE: slab foundation slippage

Well, since showing the interior damage, the case is bad enough to require some investigation on if really it is slipping or simply an effect of a too flimsy foundation.

In any case to ameliorate the state of what existent measures need be taken, if slippage, against splippage, and in any case against the excessive deformations leading to the cracks.

Unfortunately a relatively thin slab on the floor is not the best with what to start to straighten -stiffen- a home.

Foundations need be stiff to relieve the elevated work of disproportionate bad effects that precisely weak foundations cause. Of course, stiff foundations are costlier, but use to be better.

My home is 25 years old. It was built at a time when code was lacking in this area. I have done some local research and others have used the "caulk bumping" for slippage, with good results. My main question would be more of a "who can do this" question. I am leary of hiring a building contractor, or general contractor to do something that seems so specialized, however; after speaking to the professionals, I know I can't afford them. Any resources? Referrals? Northern California. Bay area.

RE: slab foundation slippage

I know Terry Wang with Kleinfelder - runs the Pleasanton office.  Good engineer.  But he's a geotechnical consultant.  I don't have any contractor referrals -

I'd be very leery of any "fix" in your area that's undertaken without a geotechnical study.  You could be making matters worse...
