orthotropic plate theory

orthotropic plate theory

orthotropic plate theory

(OP)
Hi everybody. I have a problem and I would like to know if somebody can help me solve it.
I need to model a two-way ribbed slab with a finit element program. In order to do so, I can change the stiffness matrix of the program but I have to calculate these coefficients. I know that some programs calculate them automatically, but I want to learn the procedure and understand it.
Could you give me a reference to this theory?
Thank you very much.

RE: orthotropic plate theory

Hi Aaragon,

For starters try the classic book "Theory of Plates and Shells" by Timoshenko and Woinowsky-Krieger, published by McGraw-Hill. It has a section on orthotropic plates that gives equivalent orthotropic elastic properties.

There is also a book by Massonet and Save on orthotropic plate theory, but it is out of print.

Andries, thank you very much for replying. I'll try to find those books. However, since it is very difficult for me to find books in english here, is there a link to a paper over the internet where this theory is explained? do you know something? Thank you very mucch. Regards.

RE: orthotropic plate theory

2 way ribbed slab design ....refer to Advanced RCC design  by N Krishnaraju ( I belive its TMG publication)

RE: orthotropic plate theory

Hi Aaragon,

I don't know of any websites where one could obtain info on orthotropic slabs, but I will let you know if I come across anything.

Andries
