Over voltage fault on drive.

Over voltage fault on drive.

Over voltage fault on drive.

(OP)
Hi there
We are using an drive on a hoist for a depalletiser. When 'down' is selected the drive trips on over voltage. Probably due to the weight causing this. Can one set something on the drive to prevent this from tripping out? Or any other suggestions please?
We are using the Allen Bradley Powerflex4   3.7KW
Thanks

RE: Over voltage fault on drive.

Sounds like you need a break chopper. The back EMF from the suddenly unloaded motor ("down") is causing your capacitor voltage to increase. The chopper will momentarily short the plus and minus of the caps through a resistor to bring the voltage down. Also, check your parameter for the over voltage setting and make sure it is correct. If it's set too low, you'll get nuisance trips.
