I have found the plantweb university very usefull.

Im a process engineer and therefore instruments and bus technology etc. is not my core area - but its often usefull to know the basisc of this area.

Here you can lear about protocols, busses, wire and a lot of other instrument related subject.

I also got a maglite for completing a number of "classes". Not bad either.
