Video Tearing

Video Tearing

Video Tearing

(OP)
Hello,

I am having a problem with video tearing.  I know this is normally associated with the sync.  The video is uncompressed digital, which is then converted to RS170 and displayed on a CRT.  The manufacturer is insisting the wiring between the camera and video processor is the culprit.  The wiring is shielded twisted pair.  In the cable the video is bundled with some power circuits and some control discretes, which are also shielded twisted pair.  There may be some issues with improper shielding or slightly defective twisted pair wires that may contribute to the tearing, but I think the majority of the problem is within the video unit.  Does anyone have any suggestions or technical expertise on this subject.  Your input is greatly appreciated.

RE: Video Tearing

When you say that is "converted to RS-170" how do you know that it's really RS-170?

A simple test is to run a known "good" RS-170 source into the display system and see if it works.

My experience is that it's almost invariable a problem with the video source not being really RS-170.

Monitors are extremely tolerant of the signal, so if it's having problems displaying, then the source is screwed up somehow.

RE: Video Tearing

Can you temporarily move the monitor to the source and connect it with short known-good patch cords to verify if the wiring is in fact the problem?
