Titanium bolt design recommendations

(OP)
I'm looking for some help in locating referance material regarding special considerations given to bolts made from 6/4 Titanium.  The application is a sporting goods product were fatigue is the primary concern.  The bolts are would be used in a basic clamp that will retain a thin walled tube structure.  Bolt weight also plays a role in choosing to investigate Ti.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

RE: Titanium bolt design recommendations

We used Ti fasteners on an underwater manupulator we built a few years back (now we avoid Ti fasteners). Here are some things to consider. Ti is "Gummy" expecially in Ti.  It tends to gall very easily.  A coating such as TiLube (Tiodize) is highly recommended. Also, for as strong as it is, it is still really "soft".  Almost all of our hex recess 100 deg csk screws have been replaced with A286.  The recesses are easily stripped.  The 100 deg csk head complicates the problem because they have smaller and shallower sockets.  If you use hex heads or 12 pts you should be OK.  The aircraft 12 points have a recess in the head to reduce wieght.
