Does anyone know how to remove Solidworks association with file types of .prt?

Please help

RE: File association

I have Windows 2000 and all you have to do is right click on the file, click properties, and then change the "opens with" dialog.  Hopw that helps.

RE: File association

Didn't know they had a .prt extension, thought it was .sldprt

Anyway, you can right-click a file in Explorer, and chose Properties. Next click the Change button and associate it with something else...

Remove it I don't know without trying something.

RE: File association

One other method to access the "Opens with" association:

1.) Select the icon for the file.
2.)  [Shift] + right-click the icon
3.)  Select "Open with..." and browse for a new application.  There is also a checkbox to make that application the new default.

This method will work if the normal method posted by Creigbm does not.

RE: File association

SW used to use *.prt as their file extension many moons ago. Then they switched to the standard you see today *.sldprt. A .prt file can also a Pro-E file. The way you change the file type is listed above.

The way I change the file types are below:

1) Windows Explorer
2) Tools\Folder Options
3) Click on File Types tab
4) Scroll down to the type (*.prt)
5) Click on "Change"
6) Find the program I want to use
7) Click OK
8) Click OK again

and I'm done.

Next time I open that file type it should remember my setting.

RE: File association

.prt files have been used by Unigraphics long before Pro/E existed.
