Repair or replace old recip ACCUs

Repair or replace old recip ACCUs

Repair or replace old recip ACCUs

(OP)
We have a sixteen year old Carrier Split System with a leaking condenser (original compressors I believe)and a twenty year old Trane RAUB ACCU (one of two that serve the same AHU)that has a bad compressor. First, should I replace the evaporator coils if I replace the condensing units and in the case of the Trane unit I'm thinking of getting a whole new unit(s) to replace both aging units. Thoughts?

RE: Repair or replace old recip ACCUs

Sixteen years is nearling the end of the useful life of the equipment and I wouldn't throw good money after bad in repairing the units. If the evaporator coil is as old as the condensing unit, I would definitely replace it. If the coil has been replaced recently (say last 5 yrs or so) it's probably okay.
