Seals for Submerged Hydraulic Cylinders

Seals for Submerged Hydraulic Cylinders

Seals for Submerged Hydraulic Cylinders

(OP)
Hi,
I need information on seals  for hydraulic cylinders  working underwater.  The application is  the hydraulic  drive of a couple of miter gates  working in a  lock. These cylinders worked above  water level but  now  will be  submerged aprox.  1 foot plus they  will be exposed to  pressure  spikes and vacuum inside  the cylinder produced  by the huge  inertia  of the miter gate.
Any suggestions?

RE: Seals for Submerged Hydraulic Cylinders

We have built cylinders to operate under water. The best thing to do is add a seal just to keep the water out. This seal should be rubber and be behind the rod scraper. Adding a drain between the two seal and venting to a container will tell you when there is a seal breach and it is time to reseal.
