SYBASE/ENVOX - PROVOX DCS

SYBASE/ENVOX - PROVOX DCS

SYBASE/ENVOX - PROVOX DCS

(OP)
Hello everybody,

Is there somebody that know the SQL method to increase the size of the LOGIC DEVICE on ENVOX for a LOG DEVICE????

The forms method described in the manual: "SYSTEM MANAGERS GUIDE TO ENVOX USERS" is not possible because there is no access to the ENVOX administrator (envoxa) forms system.

Thanks.

RE: SYBASE/ENVOX - PROVOX DCS

Almost all the behavior of Sybase is the same as M$SQL.
Use an "Alter" command will lead you the way.

RE: SYBASE/ENVOX - PROVOX DCS

I do not understand "no access to the ENVOX administrator (envoxa) forms system".  Is this a VMS system?  If so "envoxa" issued at a VMS $ prompt should envoke the administration forms.  Try selecting "administration" under the "More" menu on the upper level Envox forms.  This will envoke the same admin login form with a default user of "sa" where the default password is "database".

No logical device can be increased in size if you stay within the normal boundaries of the Fisher admin policies unless the original device was created larger than the amount allocated (which is a good idea to allow for increasing the size easily).

The available devices and current allocations may be viewed through the "Databases" menu of the administration forms.  If unallocated space is available on the device you desire to increase then you may nodify under "modify database" under the "Databases" menu.  Other wise simply add a new logical device under the "logical devices" menu.

Use whatever name seems logical to match current devices and fill in the blanks on the "Add Logical Device" form.  The file name and location default to a DB location and file name that matches the name you provided.

If a log device is being created then change the "DB" referance in two places on the VMS device and directory referance to "LOG".  This will keep the Database and Log devices on separate physical devices for better performance.

Use the "F7" key to select the next available device number and enter the desired size in Mega Bytes.  After this is done go to "Modify Database" under the "Databases" menu and enter the amount of the new device you wish to allocated to your database and select weather it is LOG or DATA.  When you apply these changes you are done.
