Sheetmetal bending help

(OP)
I have a part that has several 'donuts' linked with tabs.
The part is .002 thk. How can I bend the part so that the tabs are bent with the 'donuts' stacked alternating on top of each other at certain distance between them?
thanks you

RE: Sheetmetal bending help

Wow... Im scratching my head trying to picture this.. is there any way you can send my a sketch of what it is you are trying to create? I am certain I can help you.. but I need to get the picture in my head first!

RE: Sheetmetal bending help

Try modeling the part in its formed state, and then unfold it.

Good and evil: wrap them up and disguise it as people.

RE: Sheetmetal bending help

That will work provided that the bends are straight... SW sheetmetal does not support bends around a curve..

Excuse the crude ASCII art...

I would start off sketching like above, then cut-away the material required to make your connected donuts, then Insert>Bends.

thanks, the shape I am looking for is the 'donuts' stacked vertically, .010 between them with the tabs curving alternately on each side 180 deg apart.

I GOT IT!
After meswsing with it for a while....
I created a solid of one donut with parts of tabs 180 deg apart, then added a hem to one of them. Then created a second solid like the first one based off the hem surface. Then a third hem off the other tab and so on...
When I click on unfold..WOW!
thanks everyone.

RE: Sheetmetal bending help

You could model a strip of the profile, add the sheetmetal bends, and then cut it to shape.

Good and evil: wrap them up and disguise it as people.

If anyone wants to see the part on how I did it, let me know and I can e-mail it to you.
