This is a well known and established book on heat transfer, originally in German and translated in english. I dont know what VDI means in german. A search on google tells that its eqns are used in most of the design softwares on heat transfer.

hope this helps

RE: VDI heat atlas required

check out the following web site as follows
http://yellowdog.wdn.com/techbook.htm
'VDI Heat Atlas. VDI 1993. 981 pp., with 900 illustrations and 360 tables. Cloth. ISBN 3-18-400915-7. $645.00 + $18.00 postage and handling. (prepayment required).

This first English language edition is an indispensable tool for engineers in finding optimum and creative solutions to the heat and mass transfer problems involved in the design of process engineering equipment. In its previous, German-language, edition it was internationally recognized as a standard work of reference, without peer in technical and scientific literature. It presents a comprehensive, authoritative working basis for engineers, lucidly and precisely worded. Fourteen sections address the following topics: the elements of heat transfer; symbols, units and dimensionless numbers; design of heat exchangers; properties of material and process variables; thermal conductivity; heat transfer in free single-phase flow; evaporation; condensation; thermal radiation; pressure drop; particular heat transfer problems; heat transfer in thermal regenerators; and, hints on the construction of exchangers.'
Expensive!!!!
Download for free copernic agent which is a better search engine than google at http://www.copernic.com/en/index.html.
You might be able to find this book for less.
Good hunting!

RE: VDI heat atlas required

VDI is the abreviation for "Verein Deutscher Ingenieure" or in English: Institute of German Engineers. The Heat Transfer Manual is expensive, ca. EURO 600, and can be purchase from the above mention Institute in Duesseldorf, Germany.
