Torque on two sides of a gear box

Torque on two sides of a gear box

Torque on two sides of a gear box

(OP)
I am an Undergraduate Electrical engineer working on the modelling of a induction machine wind generator.

My problem is relating the torques on either side of the gear box.

I have the torque at the input side of the gear box, the gear ratio and this equation:

dV/dt = ( Mt - G Mm) / Tt

Mt = turbine shaft torque
Mm = Torque at the machine end of the gear box
G = Gear Ratio
Tt = inertial time constant

V = Wind turbine rotational speed ( Unknown)

I need to find the Mm but I dont know the speed V ?

RE: Torque on two sides of a gear box

Multiply the input torque by the gear ratio, and this should be Mm.  I am not sure what this equation is that you have.  You appear to be solving for a linear speed?  I would think that you would be solving for rotational speed as in rad/sec or rev/min(RPM).  If you need to know the output speed, divide the input speed by the gear ratio.

Hope it helps.

RE: Torque on two sides of a gear box

Its been almost thirty years since I had to do these type of problems, but it seems to me that given only what you have, you either have to assume or are given that this is a constant velocity problem.  Assuming then that, dV/dt is zero, you are left with the equation Mm = Mt/G which you can solve.  Good luck!
