Sodium Cyanide piping in gold plants

Sodium Cyanide piping in gold plants

Sodium Cyanide piping in gold plants

(OP)
I am putting together the piping specifications for a gold plant in Western Australia. Our governing Standard for Pressure Piping, AS4041 makes extensive reference to ANSI B31.3 Process Piping. Our Std classifies piping into 4 classes according to service, one classification being: (1)Lethal (2)Very Harmful (3)Harmful (4)Non-harmful.

Does ANSI B31.3 have a similar classification? Would Sodium Cyanide be considered Lethal or Very Harmful? Is Polyethylene piping typically used for Sodium Cyanide & Sodium Hydroxide (30%) in US Gold Plants? Can anyone point me to some typical piping specifications for US Gold Plants?

Many Thanks

RE: Sodium Cyanide piping in gold plants

Michael,

ANSI/ASME B31.3 - Process Piping goes through all aspects of process piping design from material of construction through to inspection, examination and testing. It is an extensive standard but if you search on the net the chapters to zone in on are;"Chapter VII - Non-metal Pipe/Lined Pipe, "Chapter VIII - Piping-Cat.M Fluid Services"
I'm afraid your question is to broad for a simple answer, but you should be able to download these chapters from the net or if your company has an extensive library the ANSI/AMSE specs should be there
