understanding schematics

(OP)
Hi,
I am trying to learn how to read schematics.  I am looking for schematics involving circuit breakers and switchs etc..  Not the electricial type ie. with capacitors and resistors.  Does anyone know of any books or websites where I can find an explanation step-by-step with the accompanying schematic diagram?   I have searched university libraries, but all the books I can find pertain to electrical (capacitor, resistor type schematics).  I hope someone has info on this.  Thanks for your help.

RE: understanding schematics

Electrical Power and Controls
Skvarenina, DeWitt
ISBN 0-13-080182-8

this has everything you want.

RE: understanding schematics

Square-D has a letter sized book about magazine thickness that covers electrical schematics for control ckts. First two pages lists all the used and typ symbols. The rest of the book are diagrams showing schematics of how to arrange them into control functions for applications.

These cover switches, motors, ckt bkrs, fuses, thermal o/l, mom sw's, relays, control coils, ect... is this what you want?

The book is entitled simply as "Wiring Diagrams". It carries a copyright date of 1986

Hi, I am looking for a book or software that will further my understanding of how to read schematics. I am looking for something that is easy to understand.

RE: understanding schematics

Suggestion to the previous posting: Please, could you be more specific?

RE: understanding schematics

jbartos I am looking to understand machine schematics. I work on complex robotic suystems. I do not need to go to component level rather pcb and wire level.

Suggestion: Try your technical library, e.g.
1. McIntyre R. L., "Electric Motor Control Fundamentals," Third (or more recent) Edition, McGraw-Hill Book Company, 1974
2. ANSI Y32.2-1975 = CSA Z99-1975 = IEEE Std. 315-1975 "Graphic Symbols for Electrical and Electronics Diagrams"
