Sweeping on a datum curve

Sweeping on a datum curve

Sweeping on a datum curve

(OP)
I have created a large assembly and plotted several datum points. I then created a datum curve thru these points. When I try to create a part inside the assembly by sweeping a protrusion along this curve I get a "Invalid trajectory" message. Does anyone know why?

RE: Sweeping on a datum curve

My knowledge of ProE in this regard tells me that your datum points/trajectory are not coplanar.  I am pretty sure that swept protrusions have to be limited to one plane.  The only exception is a pipe feature, and that is only because the pipe is always round, and ProE can anticipate the surface changes a pipe can take on when protruding in more than two dimensions.

I could be wrong here, but I have been told that 3D swept protrusions must be done in separate parts to comply with the coplanar trajectory rule.
