Gasketting of plate exchangers & advantages v spirals

Gasketting of plate exchangers & advantages v spirals

Gasketting of plate exchangers & advantages v spirals

(OP)
Dear sirs,

We are considering using plate exchangers in place of spiral exchangers for some clean fluid cooling duties.

However, we have some conserns.

1) On going maintenance costs of plates v spirals.
Are plates exchangers suitable to use in applications where we need them to operate 3-5 years between shutdowns ?

2) Gasketting issues. are plates difficult to seal once opened ?

3) Do plates suffer more from stress crosion craking than spirals due to the thinness of the plates

We have a lot of operating experince with spirals with out issues but have reliased that they are very costly relative to plates.

Many Thanks for the advice / suggestions

James Bruce

In a "Search" window-field (at the top) type "plate+heat
+exchanger" than in the next window to it select "Search Posts (Keyword)" and press GO.  You are going to be amazed how many threads exist.

For example Thread391-62988 was rather educational for me.
