Elevation and Pressure - calculation

Elevation and Pressure - calculation

Elevation and Pressure - calculation

(OP)
Hello all,

Urea solution (99.5% CONC,1.221sg) flows from prill tower from 170 feet elevation through 2" dia SS pipe(40 sch) to 70feet elevation. At 70 feet elevation (horizontal pipe)Press. Gauge shows only 0.5 ksc against the calculated value of 3.72ksc.There is no flow indication at both higher and lower elevation.

(170-70)*1.221*62.4/144/14.22= 3.72ksc.

What could be the reason?
Is this calcutation is valid only when pipe is full of liquid?
How to know that pipe is full of liquid?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Elevation and Pressure - calculation

Please explain where is the gage installed, is it on the horizontal section , or in the vertical portion of the pipe ? Where and how is the horizontal pipe discharging, does it empty into a reservoir ? Are there any valves closing the pipe? Besides, is the gage well calibrated ? How do you know there is no flow ?

Dear MR.25362,

AA. The gage is installed in the horizontal section and well calibrated one.

BB. After the gage(in 6" away ), a branch is taken (recirculation line with FCV, without Flow Transmitter,by closing/opening this valve flow is controlled in the consuming point ) to buffer tank(atmospheric vessel) , since part of the solution alone will be consumed(we could see increase in level in the buffer tank).

CC. Solution discharges to atmospheric vessel, free flowing(Here also we could see liquid flowing). Between this PI and discharge point line length is about 30 feet with 2 nos HSV's(hand shut off valve), two nos plug valve ,5 nos 90 bend and a magnetic flowmeter(erratic indication).

If any other info is required, please let me know.
