can't "profile" a sketch - "you do not have a valid..part"

can't "profile" a sketch - "you do not have a valid..part"

(OP)
Hi,

I don't have much experience with Mechanical Desktop ( I have version 2.0.  Why can't I get it to profile a sketch I make?  It says " You do not have an active part.  Use AMACTIVATE or AMNEW to continue part editing.  I don't usually have this problem.  Also, any basic suggestions on using this product would be appreciated.  I usually have to try about 20 different ways to do something, all of which seem logical to me, before I stumble on the one that works.  While Autocad seems very intuitive, this desktop product seems very difficult, and Autodesk does not offer any support that I can find.  Is is me? - because I just don't get it.

Thanks, John

RE: can't "profile" a sketch - "you do not have a valid..part"

I need a little more info. to help you.  Do you have a blank screen on which to sketch the part or are you trying to perform a new sketch with another existing?

Make sure that all of your endpoints are touching. Try turning everything into a Pline before profiling. It's easier to see if things are connected. In general, just make sure that the profile is clean without any over hanging lines etc
